It’s 2025, and we are in the midst of an American fascist takeover. Who had that on their bingo card for their blog 25 years ago? Not me!
As I look back at this blog, I consider what in the hell went wrong?
I mean, over 25 years, I’ve gone through 9/11. I went through George Bush.Katrina. I went through the Iraq war, and I was fortunate enough to go through eight years of Obama on this blog.
Since starting Allied, I was in the New York Times as a woman blogger pioneer, and the Times online, and Business Week. I spoke at SXSW, was an editor of blogher, ran my own business for 18 years with clients like AT&T, IBM, SAP, and Deloitte. During all that time, I raised an amazing child I sent to college in preparation for her being prepared for a world that no longer exists. That single fact is enough to leave me heartbroken. I started this blog. I was in my 30s. I’m now in my 60s. It doesn’t seem possible that this is my future, or any of our futures.
I lost my parents, I lost more best friends than I want to count, I lost family relationships over moral differences, and I gained new friends that aligned with my values. All the best while, I watched this country and its people become dumber, and dumber, and dumber.
In January of 2020 when I saw that a deadly virus was taking hold in China, I began to spend more time online. Tiktok came along and It was great until it got co-opted by various governments. It really helped a lot when we went through the COVID-19 pandemic. We lost millions of Americans because we were under an administration that was in Elie prepared for such an event and extremely arrogant and it’s approach.
I followed the sage wisdom of physicians and surgeons and infectious disease experts, was excited to get vaccinated, followed protocol, distanced and wore masks, and all the while the American population got dumber and dumber and more volatile.
Many in the US now have Covid six or seven times. I have remained COVID-free, because I’ve followed the science and been boosted twice a year, and I will keep doing so until the country is so dumb and the population is so brainwashed and brain damaged that we are disinherited from a future we might have had.
Measles and tuberculosis are back so that’s pretty great again. I didn’t have the consumption on my bingo card for 2025 yet here we are bird flu flying around and while the rest of the world takes notice, the propaganda here is strong and nobody really cares about anything, especially their neighbor
The reason I stopped back is to tell you that today, after a white nationalist social media influencer was killed by a white 22-year old jr sniper in Utah, people that spoke out online on their own social media pages were fired from their jobs: Teachers, nurses, a lot of people. And THAT made me think of Deuce, Heather Armstrong, the first of us writing online honestly to be fired from her job. That was 2002. And I never imagined that I would be here decades later, pondering how we’ve slid back so far and so fast. Deuce didn’t make it this far with us. The world got to harsh for her, and she committed suicide.
Since the last time I was here, Russia invaded Ukraine, we had an insurrection at the Capitol of the US during the 2020 election, which they are now reframing is some kind of cosplay joyride that included painting shit on walls, trying to hang the vice president, and killing Capitol police. 2000 people were arrested, and in 2024 under a new regime, all were pardoned and released. Fortunately, since many were unhinged in the first place, they re-offended and are back in prison for new crimes.
About 10 years ago, experts from google and other companies left their job jobs and became whistleblowers on the dangers of AI. They told us that we were in for everything that is happening now. Our minds, our data, and our planet are being ravaged by its effects. And the people got dumber and dumber and dumber. Still, nobody listens.
Three years ago, abortion became illegal in most of the south and some of the Midwest. Republican lead states already had legislation ready to go when the Supreme Court gave states the right to decide crimes and punishment for pregnant women and girls. Democratic states in part of the country we call Blue states protected reproductive healthcare rights. Republican states did not. They didn’t even allow people to vote on the issue. Instead they pushed through heartbeat bills and fetal personhood laws that criminalized miscarriage and made our infant and maternal mortality rates in red states soar. The extreme right came marching on in with the flag wrapped in Christianity, and not the Jimmy Carter kind.
Speaking of Jimmy Carter, he lived to be 100! When he died December 29, 2024, President Biden lowered the flags to half staff. When the new administration entered in January 2025, they raised the flags back to full staff even though the 30 days weren’t up.
Since that time I was here, the Palestine and Israel conflict has grown into what authorities worldwide are calling a genocide. We see images of starving children. Some people have tried to reach the place, but it turned back. Doctors without borders is doing what they can to save people, but the American administration is planning on taking it over and building a resort. And Americans who protest, can be charged with terrorism.
And since that time, about a half a million black women were fired from their government jobs. The economy that Biden had back on track is gone, and for the first time since 2020 we now have more Unemployed people than jobs to put them in. And that’s despite the fact that the Heritage foundation And Stephen Miller’s mass deportation plan has imprisoned or deported a good part of our South American immigrant population.
Neighborhoods across the US are trying to resist ICE It’s taking whoever they want off the street and doing whatever they want with them, including detaining them inside of terrible detention facilities that are spread across the nation. Our compromised Supreme Court justices on the right hold the majority and have neutered the court.
We’ve lost our allies. We have become the pariah of the world. And I’m not sure how white men are 6% of the global population yet feel entitled to do whatever they want to the other 94%.
But that’s where we are.
It is horrible here. No one is happy, except for the billionaires most of whom are running the country now. Jeffrey Epstein is dead, reportedly of a suicide in his cell, even though he was under full watch. It appears that the organization that has been trafficking girls and women globally over the last 20 years was under his direction, and a portion of the Republican Party has become adamant about seeing the files with that information included. The president calls it a hoax.
So the big news this week is that Congress can’t do anything because the Republicans have the majority in the House, the Senate, the Supreme Court, and the executive branch. And everybody is waiting on them to decide to vote whether or not to release these files. A couple of the Republican Congress people are pushing for their release, especially since the president ran on the promise He would give those files to them.
We hear that governments around the world are worried about what will come out in those files — and wouldn’t you know, there are a lot of bad men out there? It’s almost like we should’ve known that. But the people got dumber and dumber and dumber.
